Dear blog,
Thought you are created for a writing class, the title of the blog suggests a specific use: to rant about organizations.
It happens so that 5 years later, I bumped into another challenging new organization--The Brazilian Cultural Arts Center of Santa Barbara.
Another charismatic leader, Mariano Silva resides in this center. He is intense as he is passionate, fiery and feisty as he is water and soft in executing his dance, speech, and martial art. I am very captivated by Mariano's character. However, I have troubles adapting into this group he calls home away from home.
Over the years, I have trained myself to be respectful of other's time, keeping a planner and notifying others ahead of time about schedule change etc. Perhaps it is the training that Dartmouth gave me, being in East coast and all along its culture of efficiency. Therefore, when it comes to gradually involving with regular performances, I stress out easily when schedules are changed in short notice or without my consent.
It is one thing to pride ourselves with authenticity and raw talent in learning of one culture's musical and emotions; It is another thing to train and be together in terms of presenting ourselves as an entity. I hope that as I commit myself to a potential teacher and mentor, I get to figure this clashes of hopes and dreams with the practicalities of running along with an organization out.
Axe!
